I do like a crossword, but always end up online trying to figure out the solutions. This book has been perfect, it lets me completely switch off, and look thing up the old fashion way.It is simple to use and easy to get to the solutions.The main issue I had with this book, it was untouchable for weeks, it absolutely stunk, and the smell would transfer to my hands when trying to us it!.

Having just purchased a book of Times crosswords in the hope of developing my skills at solving them, I was delighted to be offered this book to review. Soon after having my first go at solving a cryptic crossword, I realised I was going to have to learn the language of crosswords, and this book is just the thing to help me crack the cryptic crossword code. I am sure it will be just as handy for experienced puzzle solvers as well, as it is so comprehensive and well put together. I will be using this book a lot!

I got this as a gift for an uncle who is a regular daily crossword fan, and I know he's going to absolutely love it. I hadn't realised just how big the book is - it's a hefty hardback tome!It has multiple sections, most of it is an alphabetically arranged list that allows you to just look up any word that has you stuck, and offers synonyms, derivatives, and much more. As well as direct suggestions for words that might directly stem from others, there are also very helpful suggestions that explain what a word might be pushing you towards in a crossword context - these are flagged with little arrows throughout - a very useful element of the book.If you're a serious crossword puzzler, this will be a fantastic resource for you, and you'll be glad you made room on your shelf for it, I am sure.

This is not for casusal readers (or crossword puzzlers) - this is for the hard core enthusiasts!It is sorted alphabetically with words that have appeared in crossword puzzles, may common and far more not so common. In each case there is set of words linked with the primary word.
