I've been keeping a shaved head for a while now and I've been loving it. As a guy that's had sensitive skin my entire life I am always careful with what products I use and that concern carries over right into transitioning from hair care to skin care, or more specifically- scalp care. This 5 piece care pack is solid, but some items are better than others. Here's a quick rundown on everything in the pack as they are numbered as a set of steps. Step 1 - Exfoliate Smells nice, but hardly does any exfoliation. I used the bottle that came with my original pack, but haven't reordered it since I ran out as I prefer the other scrubs my wife enjoys using. Step 2 - Cleanse This stuff is excellent! The smell is wonderful without being too strong or flowery and has a subtle sandalwood aroma. I shave and wash my head with the step 2 cleanse and it's better than any shaving cream or shave soap I've ever used. I always come out of the shower with a great scent and a smooth shave. Step 3 - Balance In my opinion, this item is kind of a filler. You could use apple cider vinegar or something similar to get the same effect. I personally haven't touched the step 3 balance since I first tried it. I don't have greasy skin, but maybe if you're struggling with that you'd like this. It just wasn't for me. Step 4 - Moisturizing Balm This may be my favorite item in the whole kit. Since I shave every time I shower, hopping out to moisturize with this balm is one of the loveliest experiences I've had since I began keeping a shaved head. It smells a lot like the cleanse which I love and little goes a long way. I think my first jar lasted a few months, and that's with daily use. This magical stuff works wonders on my head. Step 5 - Detox Personally, I'm not a big clay mask fan be it for your face or head. This stuff seems to work like your typical clay mask would. I just never care to bother with it. Not bad, not great- just some clay to rub on your head. Do it if you're into it, but I'd rather spend the money on another Step 2 - Cleanse or a jar of the Moisturizing Balm.

This is one of my favorite products of all the self care products I'm using. It smells great, has the perfect texture, and it provides instant relief to my sensitive "chrome dome." The jar lasts a long time as you need just a dab for your entire head. I would highly recommend.

I purchased this product because I prefer to keep my head bald, and I been trying out some new moisturizer/ shine products. I purchased this for the first time recently, product arrived quickly but with a broken cap. I'm not sure if the crack in the cap will prematurely dry out the product, or if the cap cracked due to poor manufacturing, or due to delivery handling? I reached out via email to the company, they responded back same day, and shipped out a replacement same day!!! I am super impressed by their customer service, outstanding!! The product itself is great, smells good and makes my head smooth and shiny!!! Recommendation: A little bit of the product goes a long way, maybe 1/2 a thumbnail worth will be perfect!! I can't recommend this product enough, and Mountaineer has a customer for life!!

Full disclosure; I did not have any scalp issues that I was looking to address, just looking to improve my skin care routine on my head. I purchased the full system and have been using it daily for over a week now. My biggest gripe with this product is that I wear glasses/contacts so when I get in the shower it is impossible to tell one bottle from the other because they are all dark on dark print. PLEASE reconsider your packaging! That said.. the exfoliator and cleanser work well, although the cleanser says it can be used while shaving. I found this to not be true as it cleans all the oils from the skin leaving it feeling sticky and making it impossible to run a shaver over the skin confortably. PH Balance, works okay but I did not notice any real difference in the way my skin's condition. The Protect product was the one I was most interested in because I was searching for a product that would reduce the shine on my head and this product was supposed to address that. However, it is an oil based product so it goes on easily enough but leaves an oily/shiny reside on the skin. I tried using less but still found the result to be too oily.

I don’t know how many products I’ve used in the past 15 yrs. It’s been a continuous hunt for something that moisturizes and doesn’t leave the scalp all shiny. Or, as some products have done, allowed more shine to present, throughout the day. I read the reviews before ordering, and thought why not! Yes, it does not have an SPF … but is that ‘natural’ … I think not. I like that this is all natural. Product does have a scent when applied, but does not persist after application (wife approved). A little bit (I’m talking just coating the fingers, no clumps or sizable chunks) goes a long ways. Now, compared to other products I’ve used, this takes the longest to apply, using small amounts just coating the fingers and rubbing into the scalp/face. But the time is worth it. At the end of the day, no skin oil producing a shining beacon from 200 yards, this leaves my skin moisturized and not greasy. Win … win. Yes, it’s a small jar - but that’s a plus for me as I travel 15-18 days a month - it’s easy to pack. And again, it don’t take much for application, so it’s going to last a while. Will be trying other products from this line.
