will the bottom hold paper folders?

No, it comes with some 8 1/2 x 11 colored paper, but that was curved to fit into the bottom. I actually had to flatten the paper under a pile of books for a day before my daughter used the paper.

Yes, it comes with a booklet that has some project ideas.
