Seems to be cast steel

I didn't expect much from this tool since it's so cheap but I expected more than I got. I had researched proper use of such a tool in the past so I didn't go into it blind, but the tool began to bend and break immediately. After a few more attempts of using it, entire pieces had flaked off from the tool and after inspecting it it seems to be made of cast steel. For a tool with a use of this kind, cast steel is simply unacceptable. It fit right in the hardy hole so I have that to be thankful for, but I got two uses out of it before it broke on me. I'm disappointed. But it did inspire me to make my own cutting hardy, so I suppose there's that.Avoid this tool. Buy one from a reputable blacksmith shop. The increase in price will be worth it, compared to wasting money on a cheap cast steel tool that you won't even get your money's worth from.

Get what you pay for.

I liked that this tool fit the hardy hole in my anvil pretty well. Seems true to the 3/4” measurement. It seems to be made of mild steel. The first time I used this tool I heated a piece of rebar to a good orange/yellow heat and used the cut-off as you’re supposed to. When I was done, there were deformations in the tool’s cutting edge. I ground the deformations out and tried again. This time was with a piece of regular mild steel, 1/4” round bar, heated to a bright orange/yellow. Similar results.I don’t know if I want to keep smoothing out the deformations after each use, or just live with them, or try to heat treat the working edge of this tool.As the title says, you get what you pay for with this tool. It’s nothing spectacular, but it mostly does what it’s supposed to.

Shattered on first blow

Poor quality, cast pot metal it looks like. You can almost see how this is made in sand casting, probably in one of those crappy "mini mills" in South east asia, the type that you see on youtube belching smoke, where they throw a bunch of scrap in a hole with waste oil and pour it into a sand mold some guy tamped with his feet. I like to watch those videos, but I don't like to use the end product. Unless you want it to shatter in your face.

Works well for what it is meant for, but off on its size

Works well for what it is meant for, but the shank is a little over 3/4 of an inch towards the top of the shank and causes it to get wedged into the hardy hole. Had to use a pry bar to get it out. Was easy to remedy though with an angle grinder. Looked like there was a ridge from manufacturing that was not ground off before shipping.

It's cast iron, don't buy it.

This hot cut is made of cast iron. Tried cutting bar stock, nearly at forge welding temperature and it just crumbled before I could get through a 3/4" bar. Absolutely worthless.

So far so good

Fits the Harbor Freight 65 pound Doyle Anvil with no issue, the weld holding it to the base of the cutting edge prevents it from resting against the face of the anvil. Have not use the tool yet but will update my review if have issues later. So far I am pleased.
