Victron EnergyOrion-Tr Smart DC to DC Charger (Bluetooth) - 12/12-Volt 18 amp 220-Watt - Battery Charger for Dual Battery Systems - Isolated

These things aren't as "smart" as some of the other Victron stuff - for example you cannot limit its max output current, but it's simple and works great. Since it cannot be limited I went with the 12/12 18A instead of the 12/12 30A to ensure I don't blow 12V aux fuses when the batteries are low. We upgraded the batteries in our Jayco 312BHOK to LiPo4 batteries and I wanted to make sure the trailer was "adapted" instead of worrying about back feeding or charging issues. I simply disconnected the Aux Charging leg of my 7 way from the trailer, ran it to the input side of the 12/12 18A, connected the - input leg to the ground coming off the 7 Way, and then ran the +/- outputs directly to my battery bus bars with a 30 amp breaker on the positive leg.It pretty much worked out of the box with one minor adjustment needed for my 2500 CTD Tow Vehicle - I had to change the Alternator detection from "Smart Alternator" to "Standard Alternator", but that was it. It detected that it was charging lithium batteries on its own and it does isolate the camper from the tow vehicle. Doing it this way I am limited to 18A of charge current from the my truck, but that's more than enough to run my 12V fridge going down the highway. We don't really do any boondocking or dry camping so I liked this solution of being able to tow it with any truck rather than using a bigger charge controller with extra dedicated high amperage 12V plugs that would limit me to only being able to charge with my truck towing it.

I have many Victron components and like all the rest, This works amazing. I wanted something to go under my back seat in My Chevy Silverado to charge my Lithium battery that I use as an accessory battery and for my ICECO. This was a little hard to setup but I figured it out really quickly. It always charges my battery when I drive and works amazing. It is quiet, doesn't seem to produce noticeable heat. I loved it and it works amazing for what I needed.

Originally I bought the Renogy DC to DC charger to save some money but it stopped working after 3 times using it. The Victron was much easier to set up, smaller, lighter, has bluetooth, and worked right out of the box without having to fiddle with dip switches like Renogy’s. It instantly started charging my LiFePo4 battery in my Jeep and auto-detected when the engine was on and off. I also looked at Pectron and Redarc but this one seems to be the best option in my opinion.

Set this up to charge my start stop battery from the house battery when the engine was not running and the house charger was turned on. The customizable settings and the on off sensor made this set up quite easy.

The 'manual' that comes with the unit in the box requires a magnifying glass to read. I don't have one, so I didn't.I'm not seeing ways to limit charging current, unless I have to create a custom battery setup to do that (haven't looked).I'm using this between the battery ion my two vehicle and the battery in my trailer via the 7-pin connector. I noted that even with the key off, if the trailer wiring was connected then it was also connected to the vehicle battery. Should I ever forget to unplug that for some reason when stopped for a couple days (or even overnight somewhere cold where I must run the heater) then it would drain the tow vehicle battery down, potentially leaving me stranded.This should correct for that. It only charges when the input voltage is higher, and it seems to do a very good of detecting that. I've also noted MPPT-like functionality where it boosted the input voltage to bulk charge the output battery for a time (input was 13.8v, was boosted to 14.1v to the trailer battery). Nice to see.Otherwise, via the phone app, there isn't much else to it. It has a power supply mode besides being a battery charger. But I've not looked at and likely won't ever use that function. Paying extra for the Bluetooth gives me a bit of data, namely voltages in and out, but little else other than selecting the type of battery to set the charging parameters. Sure there is a graph, but I'll probably never use that either unless there is a problem I'm trying to troubleshoot, and even then likely not. Save the few bucks and get the non-Smart version. You can still set parameters via little switches and get the same performance at a lower cost.Still, happy to have purchased my first Victron product. I expect it to function for many years to come based on brand reputation alone.

I was expecting to need to wire the enable input on this to ignition switch or a toggle to disable charging the aux lithium battery when vehicle shuts off. Didn't realize that this one does alternator detection and just handles that, no extra wiring, just power in from main bus and power to to aux battery. Quick bluetooth connection and the Victron software lets you configure anything. Nice device, works great.I'm charging a 2.4 kwh LFP battery in the back of a car, to run Starlink and an electric blanket as needed.
