Not great for fine hair.
These are beautiful. Very sturdy and a pretty good value. I have very fine hair. They don’t hold fine hair very well at all.

Pretty and functional
Great and easy to use, holds up my very thick type 3 curls and works great despite having short hair. There is a bit of a learning curve, but these pins are easy to use once I got the hang of them.

Has pros and cons
Beautiful hair pins. The notches help keep hair together but make it difficult to remove.

Very pretty hair pins, a bit short
I have very thick wavy/curly medium length hair and these work pretty well for me, but I wish they were a bit longer. One is just barely able to hold my hair in a bun, but I put both in for some added security. They do have a tendency to slide out a little, but they haven't fallen out. They are really pretty though and I will be using them.

Smooth and pretty
Pretty and smooth, don’t snag your hair. For me they slide out if used as the only hold for a bun, but lovely addition after the hair is up.

Works great and no problem with airport security
I love using these. They’re very functional and lightweight and easy to carry around. They stay in place and their plastic so they can go through airport security with no problem at all. I have wavy hair and they hold really well in my hair. They’re not really bendable. They’re very secure.

Good quality
I like its quality. There is no sharp edges that can break your hair. I have a thick long hair. Just one of them is sufficient to hold my hair up. I prefer having two as backup since not easy to find good ones. Highly recommended.

Very strong for long hair
great quality - very sturdy. these are better for those with longer/thicker hair. My medium length hair, it seems the pin is too long.

I’ve ordered these twice, the exact same item. They were smaller last time and bigger this time. I like them, they work well on my wavy/fine hair, but sizing is inconsistent. In the photo, the clip on the left is what I ordered last year and the two on the right are the ones that arrived today.

I bought the ones with the jagged edges and they worked well. Maybe too well. Was pulling my hair too tight and I got a bit of a headache because it was so tightly secured. There are many ways to use it, but the way I use it is I first gather all my hair in a low ponytail, then twist the entire pony tail into a bun, then with the hairpin facing the opposite way of how I'd lime it to look in the final step, jab the sharp point of the hair pin right through from the right side of the bun till it emerges from the left side of the bun. Then I lift the hair pin slightly and turn the sharp pins to face the opposite way and jab the pins through the hair next to the scalp from behind the left side of the bun to the right side. When done this way, it creates a really lovely, neat sort of french twist/bun combination. I have smooth, long, straight, silky East Asian hair which isn't very thick, and this is the only way I can use this pin with it staying securely in my hair all day. There are other ways of securing a bun with this type of hair pin, which cause less tightness and pain and works well for people with wavier or thicker, textured hair. A few reviewers said they couldn't figure out how to make this hair pin work, so I'd recommend watching YouTube videos on how to do so on different types of hair - there are so many ways to keep hair up using these pins ... but for my hair type, many ways don't work on it and the hair pin would fall out of my hair within minutes. Only the way I described above works very well. That said, I can't seem to find a happy compromise between either having this hair pin being way too tight and secured on my hair (thus causing headaches), or having this hair pin in a looser way without falling out of my hair. I wonder if the jagged edges on the pin are catching too much of my hair and thus causing the excessive tightening of my hair when I use it right. Also, removing the hairpin from the hair requires care as the jagged edges catch on to the bun in ways which can hurt if not removed very carefully. For these reasons, I have taken off one star. Another thing is that this hairpin is listed as being constructed from cellulose acetate. Now I know many high end French hand made hair pins not sold on Amazon that cost a lot more, are also made from cellulose acetate, which makes these pins super flexible without breaking. I'm sceptical though that these ones on Amazon are made from the same material? These pins sold on Amazon don't seem very flexible to me, and the fact that some reviewers mentioned it breaking/snapping after a few uses proves it might not be genuine cellulose acetate pins. So you do need to exercise more care when using this, and if you've got thicker, textured hair, then your hair might still break this anyway, and you might be better buying a real French handmade hair pin made of real cellulose acetate, which might cost triple or quadruple the price. I have now gone and bought hair pins that have a straight edge now, and when they arrive, I'll see if they're more forgiving on my hair and scalp and lead to less pain.
