Being the husband of a quilter I am often at a loss on gift giving. I rely on various places on the interwebs to give me ideas. I saw this and figured that I could make a good copy using pvc pipe, duct tape, single edges razors and WD-40 (automatically included on every project I undertake)After making a prototype and using a few days old leftover grilled hotdogs as test fingers, I concluded that to avoid continuous trips to the E.R. to reattach fingertips, that my efforts were not worth it.This is probably the best cutter thing that I have gotten to include in a "present basket" since I got a purple stick that is used for some sort of mysterious quilting incantation, so I surmise. (quilting witchcraft?)At any rate, if you purchase this for your quilter, they will probably be very very happy with it and and use it wisely for battling the forces of evil that sell imported quilts. (I am told this is a great evil about the land)In addition, it is a very nice purple color and the blade can be replaced as necessary. WD-40 is not needed!One thing that I did notice is that the base is weighted enough that it will not tip over when used. Item arrived exactly as pictured and performed exactly as expected. It had an very nice feel and weight to it that helped it stay in place. Also, the rubber bottom was attached unlike some of the comments left on this items. This is an ingenious gadget that anyone who chain piecing should not be without. If Elennor Burns uses and promotes it on her webinars, you know it has live up to it reputation (which is does). 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!. It works even better than you think it will. Also, if its cheeeezy purple color along with its "cheap" product name lettering bothers you, just make a mini-cozy for it like I did and cover it up when not in use. This gadget now has a permanent space on quilting table whose real estate is extremely valuable. Its one of the better quilting/sewing notions to come along in quite a while. BUY THIS PRODUCT!.

This is one of those quilting items you don’t have to have to make a quilt but once you’ve used it, you won’t want to ever do without it! It makes cutting chained quilt pieces apart a breeze! It’s sturdy and the rubber bottom keeps it from sliding around. I have been quilting for years and I’m glad I finally made this purchase. I wish I had purchased it sooner!

If you like to chain piece, this gadget will help. It makes separating the pieces easy. Rather than having to pick up your scissors, just run the thread over the blade on this handy tool. If your machine doesn't have a sharp built-in thread cutter, you can use this tool to cut your thread, too. Overall, it's not a "necessary" tool--but it is a useful one.I have been using mine for over a year (5 quilts)...no need to change the blade yet. The piece is still solid--it's not coming apart like other reviewers'.

My husband purchased me two of these for Christmas this last year. While the first one works great ( I keep it in my living room) and it makes life so much easier to take your entire chain and clip the threads. The 2nd one unfortunately was bladeless :\ Good thing blades are fairly cheap, just need to remember to pick some up at the drugstore.

A wonderful birthday present! It is very handy when chain piecing and is super easy to use. The structure is solid, has a rubber base (which I applied an extra coating of glue to make sure the base stayed in place as I move this all over my sewing area), the razor is nice and sharp and well placed as not to cut fingers. I love this very simple but very handy tool in my quilt studio. Not sure how I ever did without it! I highly recommend this tool for all people who love to sew.

I gave these as gifts this Christmas to my two quilting sisters. As they're both chaining pieces and blocks for newquilts, the Cutting Gizmo gets lots of use. Both of them like it, find it indispensible, and rave about it as a gizmo that really works.

If you sew, or love someone who does, you know notions have a way of accumulating over time. Many, frankly, I could live without . . .but not this one! I had hundreds of 2.5" half square triangles I'd chain pieced. Not only did this gadget cut through the stitches like butter . . .but it made fast work of it.It's perfectly weighted and has a rubberized base that prevents scooching across the table as it's used. And if you're an experienced seamstress, you can even use it as a "third hand" seam ripper. (Though don't try this if you're a beginner)This is definitely a tool that saves time and well worth the price.***Update***I enjoy using this so much . . .i just ordered a second for my take along bag for classes.

My daughter is very happy as now she can have both hands on fabric. Makes cutting thread faster than using scissors.
