Fantastic Instructions, great for a nine year old
Great for a beginner. My nine year old was stitching confidently within about half an hour. The instructions were amazing, and clearly written for a beginner. In hindsight, it would have been better to get her one with the pattern printed because she needed a lot of help counting stitches and starting each color in the right spot.

Fun but missing thread
I bought this to teach my daughter how to cross stitch. She loved it, but it was missing a lot of the colors and some of the thread was only 3 inches so you couldn't use it. Luckily, I had thread from my stash that she was able to use. Great pattern for beginners, but made sure you have extra thread.

Perfect for a beginner!
Perfect for a beginner! I got this to teach my daughter cross-stitch, and she is enjoying it. It has everything you need, and is very simple to do. The directions are very clear, so she can understand how to do everything.
