Nice, Mellow Saltiness
The texture is flaky and a crystal combination that you apply by hand when cooking. It has a nice, mellow saltiness, but you don't want to use too much. The contents are surprisingly slightly moist, so it's important to close the lid well after using. I use it for cooking as well as finishing.

Flower of Salt, a French Delicacy! A Taste of the Ocean!
Our household loves sodium and used to consume regular table salt for classic cooking, usually very fine salt from different brands. We discovered a few years ago the unusual taste of the ultra-fine grain (almost like dust!) of the raw unprocessed Himalayan pink salt, costing only a few bucks for a huge 5 Lb jar, which will probably last more than 10 years! Discovering specialty salts in our recent Amazon search for herbs, spices, cod liver pate, etc.. we found this "French Fleur de Sel" and decided to give it a try as the label said, "from Ile de Re"... which we know well! The Fleur de Sel is mostly produced in an artisanal way in the Mediterranean seaside countries: Spain, Portugal; in France, mainly in Camargue (Rhone delta). but also in the "Ile de Re" (Island of Re), off the French Atlantic coast, near La Rochelle, where the reviewed product comes from, and where it has traditionally been hand-harvested there ... since the XIIth century (according to the locals!). Linked to the mainland by a bridge (which replaced the old ferries), the island is also known as a famous holiday resort, hosting some Rich and Famous celebrities... A little Martha's Vineyard of France! The process: received from Amazon three weeks ago (2-day Prime/USPS) this tiny little jar (1.5 oz, 43 gr), costing $6.99 in appropriate packaging. Cf. picture 1. The appearance: very pure, white with a touch of grey, irregular light crystals, resulting from the hand-harvested evaporated seawater. Cf. picture 2. The taste: amazing, a shock, really! Very ... salty! Very strong taste, with a delicate and complex flavor, though. Crack under the tooth Our usage: not in large quantity of course, not every day, complementing our raw Himalayan pink salt, adding just a few flakes as a "finishing salt" to give a special flavor to the food at the last minute: salad, meats, fish, veggies, dessert to enhance the food... My personal treat as an appetizer: cut a (refrigerated) red radish in two, a touch of unsalted butter on each half and a pinch of white crunchy crystals of Fleur de Sel on top! Delicious! Cf. picture 3. Pros: great natural product (the label says: gluten- & GMO-free). It comes from the salty Atlantic ocean, not from inland salt mines. Unrefined, unprocessed, a very healthy choice! The caviar of the salts! Con: it is expensive, compared to the regular table salt: $6.99 for 1.5 oz. [There is another choice on Amazon: same product, same seller, 8 oz currently for $12.50 for a better ratio. Probably our next choice!]. Feb 2019.

Very mild flavor but nice.
I like this salt. Not a fan of the taste of black truffles, but the white is good. Not a very strong flavor for me.

Plastic container full of yummy salt
Salty! Yum. Plastic container doesn’t feel super “luxury” or whatever but it does the job and the label looks nice. I’m happy to have it live on my counter.

Special salt
This very special salt is not meant for everyday use but only for certain dishes such as for example to spread sparingly over the apples of tarte tatin.
