Awesome cup!
Love, love, love my menstrual cup! I want to be upfront with the fact that I've never used any other brand. But I love this menstrual cup. I'm so happy to be free from using tampons. It's just me and two boys in my house, and I always had to bother with burying my used, wrapped tampons in the trash can to avoid grossing everyone out, even me! I no longer have to worry about that. This is a long review, and I apologize for that, but I've tried to pack it with as much information and wisdom as possible, after a year of menstrual cup use. If you are grossed out by blood and/or body fluids, then a menstrual cup is probably not for you. I will admit that there is a bit of a mess factor with using one if, like me, you have a heavy flow. There is no getting around the fact that you will get blood on your hands in the removal and cleanup process. While at home, I solve this by removing it in the shower. While at work, I'm lucky to have access to a handicapped stall that has its own sink, so I can have some privacy while dealing with the messier days. I had trouble with a lot of leaking when first using my cup. After the second month, I had almost given up. However, I discovered that the fold I was using just didn't work with the position of my cervix. I then tried a couple different folds, and finally found one that aligns the cup perfectly with my cervix and my issues with leaking are almost non-existent now. More about leaking - I've come to believe that some small amount of leaking is unavoidable with a menstrual cup. There is no getting around the fact that blood continues to flow while the menstrual cup is out for emptying/cleaning. When you reinsert the cup, there is now a small amount of blood on your vaginal walls, outside of the cup. This is what is called "slobber" in the menstrual cup community (great term, right?) and that blood will eventually come out as a small amount of "leakage." Depending on what I'm wearing any given day, I may choose to wear a panty liner, or, if I'm wearing something dark or a thicker pair of jeans, I may not. Making sure to dry the cup off before reinsertion helps with this tremendously. The right size for you. I have a very heavy flow for 2 days of my period and I wanted as much capacity as possible. That's why I purchased the Lunette as opposed to some of the more well-known brands. Lunette claims to have the highest holding capacity. There are several sizes of this cup, and I purchased the large one to insure I have the highest holding capacity I could get. On light days, I only need to empty my cup once or twice over the course of 24 hours. On medium days, I may need to empty 2-3 times. On heavy days, I empty every 2-3 hours. The good news here is that there is an indicator, of sorts, that your cup needs to be emptied. After using the cup for several cycles, I began to notice a burping or bubbling feeling when the cup was reaching capacity, that helped me to know when I needed to empty it. Overnight use. I found that, on heavy days/nights, upon waking and getting out of bed in the morning, I would overflow the cup. This led to several messes; lesson learned! On heavy days, some ladies wake several times during the night to empty their cup, but this girl likes her sleep, so on my heavy days/nights I simply wear a night-time pad to bed to catch the overflow when I wake in the morning. This has worked well for me. Staining. I noticed, after almost a year of use, that my cup had become stained brown. I did some reading, and there are several reported solutions to this problem. I chose the 50/50 peroxide/water soak to solve my staining issues. I simply fill a coffee cup with a 50/50 mix of peroxide/water and submerge the cup in it for several hours, then rinse with hot water. The cup comes out looking brand new. With the proper care, I'm sure this cup will last me for years and years, saving a TON of money that I used to spend on tampons and pads. You may want to avoid menstrual cups if you have any of the following: A small vagina and tampons feel uncomfortable. The cup is much larger than a tampon and will only lead to more discomfort for you. If you're grossed out by blood/body fluids. As I mentioned, a cup can be messy, so if you are highly sensitive to the gross factor, avoid menstrual cups. All-in-all, I couldn't be happier with my Lunette cup! I'm so happy to be free of tampons (and pads for the most part). I highly recommend the Lunette brand and have never regretted my purchase. I believe this cup will last for many years, saving me a significant amount of moolah. Give it a try. If you stick with it and find the cup and fold that work with your body, you will never look back and will wonder WHY on earth you didn't know about this sooner! Update 3/08/2014 I wanted to come back and let you all know of one drawback to this cup. For the last 2 months or so, I've noticed cervical pain during sex and a little bit of bleeding and more cervical pain after sex. Concerned, I made an appointment with my doctor for a Well Woman Exam (it was time anyway). During the exam, she noticed a few abrasions on my cervix that she said looked like cuts, and also what appeared to be abnormal cell change. Well, you can imagine how freaked out I was! Good news; my pap came back all-clear. Bad news, I think this cup has been really irritating my cervix, maybe even damaging it. For now, I'm back to pads and tampons, as I'm a little afraid to use this cup again. My advice; only use this cup if your cervix remains fairly high during your cycle. Mine sits really low and I think the cup is hitting it when it unfolds and just sort of riding on my cervix while it's inserted, irritating it. Maybe a shorter cup would work better?

IF I COULD GIVE IT 10 STARS I WOULD
To make this long ass review short: if you’re on the fence about trying mensural cups, just do it. This cup has made my periods so much easier to deal with and I couldn’t be happier with it! Okay so I’ve tried both sizes, each for a full cycle. I’m 22, no kids, but I’ve always had a very heavy flow and assumed size 1 wouldn’t be large enough so I purchased size 2 first. I practiced using the cup a few times the week before my cycle started so I wouldn’t be clueless on how to insert and remove it. I highly recommend new cup users do this so you’re not panicking when you’re actually on your cycle and maybe pressed for time! During this time is when I noticed the stem always felt like it was stabbing me so I just cut the whole thing off. I was so scared I wouldn’t be able to remove the cup once I did this but it just took some practice. By the end of my first cycle, I was a pro at using this thing! I didn’t have a single leak the entire week and it was amazing! I also barely filled the cup to the first line even on my heaviest days. It really is true when they say you don’t bleed nearly as much as you think you do. After the first cycle using size 2, the only cons I found were: 1. It was difficult to break the seal when removing it because it’s such a big cup. 2. It was a bit too firm for me because it would put juuuust enough pressure on my bladder to make me pee a little if I coughed or sneezed. So my second cycle just ended and I used size 1 for it. I far prefer size 1 after trying both! It’s much smaller and is slightly less firm so it makes it much easier to use. I did not have the same issue with it pressing on my bladder which was perfect. I still felt the stem on this one too so I cut it off again. The only con I found with size 1 was that because it was softer, it was a little more difficult to get it to open once inserted. So now I just move it around and squeeze the base to make sure it pops open before leaving the bathroom. It’s so comfortable that I don’t even feel it and I never have leaks now that I always check that it’s sealed after inserting. It’s also a lot easier to remove. When I used tampons, I would go through about 25 tampons per cycle. Most of which were super size and they ALWAYS leaked. They were so uncomfortable and wasteful and I feel AMAZING not needing them anymore! This chemical free and eco friendly option for periods is the best invention ever and I couldn’t be happier that I gave it a chance!

Life changer!
This is a wonderful product. Not only is it comfortable but it's also environmentally friendly & cost effective! My period is extremely heavy & I always had to wear O.B. Ultra & change it every 2-3 hours for 12-14 days. I would have to use 2 O.B. Ultra tampons if I wanted to sleep through the night without having to get up to change the sheets & take a shower. I don't bleed, I hemorrhage! Sometimes the cramps were so bad I would faint & wake up in a bloody mess...Well NOT ANYMORE! 😃😃 I had no idea that the tampon blocking my cervix was the cause of the terrible cramps & super heavy bleeding until I read the insert that came with the menstrual cup. I had no trouble at all following the instructions on how to insert the cup. I did have to trim the stem down to the last notch, though. Other than that, it was super easy to use. At first I was worried that the cup wouldn't be able to handle my flow but it did! I kept checking every 2 hours only to find that my flow was the lightest it has ever been! I have not experienced those faint-inducing cramps that would cause great embarrassment (I would leak through my clothes IMMEDIATELY after the cramp was over). This cup has changed my life! I don't have to lock myself away for 12-14 days out of the month in great fear that I'll leak in public. I'm no longer experiencing bloating or pelvic discomfort and best of all, I don't have to worry about leaking! I'm able to sleep through the night, my flow is lighter and my period shorter! Sorry O.B. Tampons, you ARE the best performing tampon but you created more problems than you solved. I'm now a cup customer FOREVER! Definitely buying a spare for my bag & one for my zombie apocalypse kit. I always did worry that I wouldn't be able to find tampons during the zombie apocalypse & would be forced to wear nasty pads that would only make it easier for predators to find me by smell....Now I don't have to worry! 😃 👃 Do yourself a favor & buy a couple! 😁

I Wish I had tried a Menstural Cup sooner!!!!!
I feel cleaner during my period that I ever have before! I was nervous that the Lunette would not fit me but it is perfect. I have a heavy flow and a short vagina so I chose the Lunette because It has the largest capacity with the shortest cup height (minus the "stem"). I found a great comparison chart that had all of the various brands and sizes with ml capacity, diameter, cup height, and total height. (Google "Menstural cup comparison chart". It really helped me figure out which one was best for me. You can also find a couple of you tube videos where you can actually see what several of them look like.) Some people have reported trouble inserting/removing their cups but I have had no problem at all. I have been using a diaphragm or cervical cap for ten years so I am accustomed to "digging around up there". I actually completely cut the stem off my cap as it is irritating (short vagina again) and unnecessary for me. I found a great little youtube video on how to insert and remove the cup (she uses a clear, straight-sided drinking glass to demonstrate), and using her techniques I have yet to make a mess emptying my cup. Since having my two children naturally, I am not shaped the same down there as I once was and and I have had trouble with tampons staying in. Even on light days I had to change them every time I used the bathroom because they would get pushed out a little (using up A LOT of tampons). Because of this also, I would often leak around the tampon without even absorbing much. I also have lots of clots and these inhibit absorbtion. Because of these problems I also had to wear a regular pad along with the tampon, and in the first couple of days I would often wake up in the morning having leaked into my undies. I would also have extra cramping pain from the tampon pressing on my cervix. I would feel fine once I removed the old one and instantly have sharp pain upon insertion of the new one. My Lunette cup has solved EVERY SINGLE ONE of these problems/irritations!!!! Pros: Does not leak Easy to clean Smooth not too soft, not to hard Large enough capacity for me (on heavy days I empty it two to 3 times during the day. Light days, once every 24 hrs.) Eliminates painful removal of partly full tampons Easy to insert Easy to remove I smell clean all month! I FEEL clean all month. No stickiness! No nasty, smelly disposables in the bathroom trash (for the dog to dig into - Yick!!) Silicone holds NO SMELL (especially if you use the Lunette Wash - LOVE IT!) Easy to empty and wipe clean Comfortable and secure for horseback riding (A friend hiked 4 mi in hers with no leaking or irritation!) Greatly reduces the risk of Toxic Shock Awesome for travel Cons: Not yet experienced! *Will update if there are any :)

So far, so good...
Let me start by saying I'm an experienced cup user. In my past, I've owned 2 no name cups, and a Super Jennie, all size large. My no name cups didn't have a very big capacity, so I got the Super Jennie next. The Super Jennie is almost perfect. Almost. I just wish it was a little firmer, and maybe not so wide. After a few cycles of using it, I decided I needed something firmer. Keep in mind I don't have a very strong pelvic floor. I pee a little when I do jumping jacks. 😂 So, I was taking a bit of a risk. After much research, I decided on the large Lunette. I ordered it 3 days before my period started, and it arrived just in time. I'm only on day 1 of my cycle, but so far, the Lunette cup is great. It's very firm and springy, and inserts Like. A. Dream. I thought part of owning a menstrual cup was compromising with the fact that you'll have to struggle a bit more than you would while inserting a tampon. That is NOT true at all with this cup. I use the punch down & triangle fold, and it pops open immediately. Surprisingly, I can't even feel it open up, unlike with the Super Jennie. It positions itself perfectly behind my pubic bone, as well. I don't have to get in awkward positions to cram it up there. The suction is great! It doesn't budge while peeing or pooping, but it's super easy to take out. I thought I'd have problems with the tail, simply because it's longer than the Super Jennie's, and more rigid. I can't even feel it! And the grip rings come in handy during removal. My only wish is that it held a tad more capacity. I'll update after I'm done with this cycle. :)

Thoroughly Impressed
My apologies in advance for any TMI. I slept with no underwear on the third day of my period!! It was so nice, normally I would sleep as far away from my boyfriend as possible, but this time I didn't have to worry about weird pads or tampon strings floating around! Some quick suggestions: 1) Wear it on a day that you don't have to be at work/out and about in public restrooms first. It will help you know how long you can leave it in for and you may find out that you don't have to mess with it while out. 2) Don't be afraid of your vagina! Feel around to make sure it's in the right spot for you, and learn how to release the suction before pulling it out. 3) Cut the stem. 4) Go to their website and watch the little intro video, it's really helpful. *I totally recommend this product, but if you want more in depth review, read on my fellow powerful woman* This product is really awesome and I had a lot of doubts before purchasing it. One of my biggest struggles was which size to pick. I fall right on the cusp for age. I have never had a child, but have heavy periods. I'm pretty average size, maybe falling on the smaller side. I did choose the larger size because of how heavy some days can be and, after using, could have possibly done the smaller one, but regret nothing! I read through so many reviews, including comparisons between this one and Diva Cup, and found that user rating for Lunette was slightly higher and even though it is more expensive I chose Lunette. I definitely expected the worst. After reading about discomfort, leaks, the thing getting stuck... I was pretty cautious. The first day I wore it with a panty liner. I went to the bathroom several times during the day to "check", because it felt like when a tampon is maxed out, and there was one spot the size of a pencil eraser on the panty liner the first time I checked. That's it. No other leaks. At all! I left the little stem thingy on for the first 2 days because if it wasn't supposed to be there, the manufacturers wouldn't have put it there right? But those first 2 days I could definitely feel it, again like when a tampon is coming out. It wasn't actually coming out, so I just dealt with the feeling, not painful, not super uncomfortable, just kind of annoying. I had read that some people cut off the stem, so on the third day of my period I cut that sucker off and am so glad I did. I don't feel it at all now. After wearing it for the first day, I wanted to sleep with it. I hate wearing pads to bed because I'm always worried I'll wake up to a murder scene, so I wake up every hour or two to go to the bathroom. And I don't like the idea of sleeping with tampons because of TSS and, honestly, they were never super comfortable for me. That night, I didn't feel it in, and I sure didn't feel that creeping feeling that makes me jump out of bed and run to the bathroom! The next morning I was a little worried about it being stuck, it wasn't. Ladies, while our vaginas are magical and powerful, they are not the cave of wonders where things go to get lost and never return. I had read of people experiencing pain during removal and the first time I took it out I just kind of pulled, which was not fun because of the suction. Use your fingers. Its not super difficult to squeeze a little to release the suction so it comes out easier. It took me a few tries to figure it out, but wasn't hard after that. Overall. I am super happy with this and want to tell the world about it, but my friends and coworkers might think it's inappropriate, so I'll stick to this review. Hope this helped <3

WARNING DO NOT BUY READ THIS BEFOR BUYING!!!!!!
It hurt when I put it in. It says its for women who have had kids. Well I had 2 and it killed when I tried putting it in. And once I got it there. It hurt soooo bad I had to remove it ASAP. I would not get this if you are small even after you had kids. They should have told me that pain could happen. So now I'm out money and I can not even use this thing. I did get a different one from a different company and it works and it doesn't huet. So why did there?????? If someone could let me know that be great. But just keep your money and buy the same product from someone eles caz if you buy it hear. Like I did you should just take your $$$$$ and flush it. I should have just done that. Caz now I'm out the money and was in pain. Boy did I win with this company. (NOT) :( TWO THUMS WAY DOWN!!!!!

Pretty Nifty Product
I had never heard of a menstrual cup until I read one of the comments of a TED video. Curious, I went and did some research and found a plethora of products and handy tips. One forum I found was really helpful; even had sizing charts and methods of folding. I got this product last month, and did a test run by trying out the different folds and removing it and inserting it. I highly recommend this if you've never used this before. I found that the stem was too long so I had to cut it. If the same happens to you, after you cut, just grab a nail file and file the edges down to avoid any irritation. I found this product likes to "travel" north, so don't be surprised if you go to empty it and can't find it. This is my first month actually using it, and while I still have kinks to work out, I love it. I'm still working on the removal of the product (I kinda just grab and pull it out without breaking the seal) and as a result I'm getting some spotting. But I've never had trouble with leaking, which is really nice. The product is reliable and comfortable. If you can feel it, it's not in right. Overall I'm very happy with a product and will never go back to the old way again.
