An awesome book to learn about the archaeology of piracy. I am impressed with all of the yummy info contained in this. It is such a fun subject. It is amazing how how much popular culture got wrong as well as right. Worth picking up!

The authors and editors, Skowronek and Ewen do a great job of keeping the book to the task of archeology while still addressing some folk lore and bringing fresh perspective on the bane of nautical archaeology... treasure hunters and salvage operators. They do a great job of addressing the "Golden Age," of piracy.

Not really for casual reader.almost textbook like in how and what sites they dive.

This book covers significant archaeological digs related to the golden age of piracy. It is well documented throughout and it is also very easy and enjoyable to read.

X Marks the Spot is a great overview of the current status of underwater archaeological investigations of pirate shipwrecks, based on a very limited number of known sites. The chapters provide true insight of the archaeology of pirate's ships, and discussion of what would be expected to identify such vessels from their merchant vessel counterparts.

This is an interesting and quite educational book regarding the history and archaeology of piracy.The book follows a 'journal' type format with many different papers by different academics talking about their research.There are 3 main sections within the bookPart 1: Pirate LairsPart 2: Pirate ShipsPart 3: Pirates in Fact and FictionIn total there are 14 different 'articles' to read. Many have maps, diagrams, photographs and drawing - though sadly not in colour. All follow the trail of real 'pirates' and the archaeological evidence they left behind.The book is quite dense and aimed more at the academic who is interested in maritime history and underwater archaeology.Overall I found it an appealing and very informative book to read.
