About the Brand
---------------
Unilever brands are trusted everywhere; in fact, 150 million
times a day, someone somewhere chooses a Unilever product. Among
its many well-known food brands are Bestfoods, Knorr, Birds Eye,
Bertolli, Lipton, and Ben & Jerry's. Many of its home care and
personal care products are market leaders, including Brilhante,
Cif, Comfort, Dove, Lux, Pond's, Rexona and Sunsilk. In other
words, look in your refrigerator, freezer, or bathroom cabinet,
and you're likely to find a Unilever product.
In the 1890s, William Hesketh Lever, founder of Lever Bros.,
wrote down his ideas for Sunlight Soap--his revolutionary new
product that helped popularize cleanliness and hygiene in
Victorian England. His idea was "to make cleanliness commonplace;
to lessen work for women; to foster and contribute to
personal attractiveness, that life may be more enjoyable and
rewarding for the people who use our products." This was long
before the phrase "Corporate Mission" had been invented, but
these ideas have continued to guide the practices of Unilever
ever since, even if Lever's language and the notion of only women
doing housework has become outdated.
In the late 19th century, the businesses that would later become
Unilever were among the most philanthropic of their time. They
set up projects to improve the lot of their workers and created
products with a positive social impact, making hygiene and
personal care commonplace and improving tion through adding
s to foods that were already daily stes. Today,
Unilever still believes that success means, as its corporate
principles state, acting with "the highest standards of corporate
behavior towards our employees, consumers and the societies and
world in which we live." Over the years the company has launched
or participated in an ever-growing range of initiatives to source
sustainable supplies of raw materials, protect environments,
support local communities, and much more.

History of Lipton
-----------------
In 1880, 40-year-old, Glasgow-born entrepreneur and innovator Sir
Thomas Lipton envisioned an rtunity to make tea universally
accessible with guaranteed quality at acceptable prices. He began
by purchasing tea estates in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, and arranged
packaging and shipping at low costs to sell his teas directly
from the tea garden to the tea pot. In 1893, he established the
Thomas J Lipton Co., a tea packing company with its headquarters
and factory in Hoboken, New Jersey. Lipton entered the dehydrated
soup market in 1939 and the Lipton soups brand was founded. He
began years of conscientious testing, reformulating and
evaluating to get the consistent quality you will find in Lipton
soup brands today. In 1954, the famous California Dip recipe (now
known as the “Lipton Onion Dip” combines the Onion Soup Mix with
sour cream and became a huge success based on its convenience and
flavor. It became evident that some varieties were more suited
for recipe usage than others and over the years, other flavors
and soup products were added to the Lipton soup portfolio. The
dates of the introductions of the existing product lines are as
follows: 1970: Lipton Cup-A-Soup ,1980: Lipton Soup Secrets,
1992: Lipton Recipe Secrets. The Lipton brand now offers a wide
range of teas and soups.
