WheelerCerama-Coat, Spray On Ceramic Coating for Customizable, Scratch Resistant, Non-Reflective Matte Coating

I've had several guns finished with cerakote; decided I would try this product on a customized AR-7 survival rifle. Aside from proper cleaning and prep that any finish would require, it's much easier and can be done without the equipment cerakote needs. It does spray cleanly, covers well, makes a consistent uniform finish. Durability so far seems fine. Overall, it's much easier than cerakote, is what it says it is!

Followed the directions exactly how I was supposed to and it worked great. Super smooth finish that looks factory. Can’t speak on durability yet but seems to be very hard and high quality.

I Followed Instructions to the letter! Maybe this was a defective can.... I even not only cleaned the parts i gave them a complete bath in Acetone. I let dry for two hours. I shook it up for over two minutes. When I began to spay an oily substance shot out of can.... I had to reclean gun grip. I then sprayed can on a test board until it was flowing with a fine spray. I applied evenly. I noticed that it did not look as wet initially as it did in the Wheeler Engineering Application video on Youtube. Nonetheless I continued to apply to both major parts. I let dry for 30 minutes. I reapplied heavier coats , again, noticing that it didn't really look that wet. I let dry 30 mins. I put metal part in oven on 300 for 30 minutes. I put polymer par in oven on 200 for 2 hours. After cooling I removed. I noticed immediatle that the finish looked very matte and not shiny and smooth as it does in forementioned video. When I began to reassemble the finish was literally flaking and chipping off. It was a total FAIL! Now I have to send it to a professional to have everything media blasted . I am going to get Cerakote done professionally! Terrible product... I would NOT recommend.

Follow the instructions to a T and you won’t be disappointed, there are some good videos on the tube to help if it’s your first time, in the pics only the rail was done with “olive drab” didn’t quite match the ranger point precision grip so I’ll be painting it next.

OK so for starters let's just say it's all about how well you prep your surface before painting. So it says that it can be layer down over factory coatings. The knife I refinished was a crkt pilar black. Kids destroyed the finish and looked terrible. So I removed the finish on the blade with steel wool. Wich revealed some blemishes in the steel. No biggie. Figured it would hide just like it did with the factory finish. I didn't use primer because I don't have any high temp primer. You have to bake this paint at 300⁰ for 30 minutes. Sprayed with duplicolor prep spray and cleaned. Sprayed 3 coats with 30 minutes dying time in-between. Baked like said above. Looked great till I went to sharpen. It flaked.... repeated on the pocket clip. Paint bubbled. But sanded of pretty well and took additional painting and baking. Once done correctly it's actually pretty darn hard and holds up pretty well. It bonds to the metal pretty good and doesn't scratch so easily.
